Blues 3, Canadiens 2 (SO)
T.J. Oshie scored the only goal in the shootout and Alexander Steen netted his league-high 13th goal to lift visiting St. Louis.
Chris Stewart scored the tying goal midway through the third period as the Blues won for the fourth straight time in Montreal. Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves, including denying Tomas Plekanec on a penalty shot in the final minute of regulation, and stopped all three attempts in the bonus format to improve to 3-0-0 against his former team.
Rene Bourque and Michael Bournival scored second-period goals for the Canadiens, who lost their third straight (0-2-1). Carey Price turned aside 30 shots in falling to 1-2-2 lifetime against St. Louis.
Steen continued his torrid start thanks to the work of captain David Backes, who knocked down defenseman Douglas Murray behind the net and fed an onrushing Steen for a 1-0 edge just 2:38 into the contest. Steen's career high in goals is 24, set in 2009-10.
Bourque tied it at the 5:38 mark of the second, cleaning up a rebound after defenseman Andrei Markov drove the net, and Bournival pounced on a giveaway by blue-liner Jay Bouwmeester and ripped a bullet past Halak just over nine minutes later. Stewart was credited with the equalizer with 9:29 left to play when defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk's shot deflected off both Montreal's Max Pacioretty and him and fluttered past Price.
