Martin Hanzal registered a goal and three assists while defenseman Connor Murphy scored in his NHL debut as Phoenix won its eighth straight game at home.
Lauri Korpikoski added a goal and two assists and Mike Ribeiro had one of each while Radim Vrbata added three helpers for the Coyotes, who improved to 9-0-1 on home ice. Captain Shane Doan and defenseman Michael Stone also scored goals and former Lightning netminder Mike Smith made 27 saves for Phoenix.
Alex Killorn collected a goal and an assist, J.T. Brown netted his first NHL tally and Richard Panik recorded his first of the season for Tampa Bay, which lost for the first time in eight games against Western Conference opponents. Starter Ben Bishop allowed three goals on 14 shots and Anders Lindback stopped 13 in relief for the Lightning.
Stone hammered home a one-timer from the high slot 15:58 into the game on the power play and Hanzal’s shot went in off Bishop’s skate 57 seconds later. Ribeiro pushed the lead to 3-0 with the man advantage 1:48 into the second on a rebound, ending Bishop’s night.
Panik scored from the edge of the right faceoff circle at 16:19 of the second, but Murphy answered 46 seconds later with a low shot through a screen from the high slot. Brown scored off a nifty setup by Teddy Purcell with 2:05 left in the middle period, but Doan popped in a rebound 1:37 into the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Phoenix D Zbynek Michalek was out with a lower-body injury and D Rostislav Klesla was also scratched. … Tampa Bay rookie D Andrej Sustr recorded his first career two-point game with a pair of assists. … Doan scored his first goal against Tampa Bay in 22 contests and extended his point streak to six games.
