Flames 5, Jets 4 (SO)
Rookie Sean Monahan scored in the eighth round of the shootout as visiting Calgary overcame Bryan Little's tying goal with six seconds remaining in the third period to end a six-game winless skid (0-5-1).
After Joe Colborne and captain Andrew Ladd traded tallies in the first and second rounds of the shootout, Blake Wheeler and Lee Stempniak did the same in the fourth. Reto Berra (43 saves) stopped the next four shooters before Monahan skated in and beat Al Montoya to end the wild affair on his first career shootout attempt.
Mike Cammalleri recorded a power-play goal and an assist and defenseman T.J. Brodie scored to snap a 12-game goalless drought. Lance Bouma scored a short-handed goal and Jiri Hudler also tallied for the Flames, who recorded their first victory since posting a 3-2 overtime decision over Chicago on Nov. 3.
Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien collected his fifth goal in as many games and added an assist. Michael Frolik and Olli Jokinen also tallied and Montoya finished with 29 saves in his first appearance since Nov. 6 for the Jets, who have dropped two in a row following a four-game winning streak.
With the game tied at 3-3, Hudler unleashed a one-timer from near the right-wing boards that sailed past Montoya, who was down on the ice prior to the shot at 16:34 of the third. Winnipeg tied it after Evander Kane's sharp-angle bid from along the right-wing boards produced a juicy rebound for Little, who buried it from the left doorstep for his team-leading 12th goal.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Winnipeg RW Devin Setoguchi nearly opened the scoring in the first period, but his shot rang off the post. The loose puck rested close to the goal, but the officials blew the play dead after C Matt Stajan crashed into Berra and dislodged the net. ... Kane, who saw his goalless drought extend to nine games, was denied on a partial breakaway early in the second period. ... The Flames were making their first visit to Winnipeg since losing on April 6, 1996.
