David Krejci scored 1:28 into overtime as Boston defeated Carolina for the second time in six days and improved to 6-0-2 in its last eight home games.
Jarome Iginla accepted blue-liner Johnny Boychuk's lead pass in overtime and deftly split the defense before drawing the attention of Cam Ward. The veteran dropped a pass to the trailing Krejci, who deked the sprawling goaltender to the ice before wristing the shot into the gaping net for the game-winning goal.
Reilly Smith scored against the Hurricanes for the second time this week for the Bruins, who skated to a 4-1 triumph over Carolina on Monday. Captain Zdeno Chara added his fourth power-play goal and Chad Johnson turned aside 22 shots.
Defenseman Andrej Sekera scored a power-play goal and Patrick Dwyer forged a 2-2 tie with a short-handed tally midway through the third period. Ward finished with 35 saves for the Hurricanes, who have dropped six straight on the road (0-5-1) and four in a row overall (0-3-1).
Boston dominated play in the second period before snapping a 1-1 tie with 6:29 remaining in the session. Carl Soderberg's initial bid from the high slot did not get through, but Smith alertly spotted the puck on the doorstep before backhanding a shot off the glove of Ward and into the net. Dwyer answered 11:10 into the third after collecting a carom off the boards and skating in before beating Johnson with a backhand.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Carolina LW Jiri Tlusty skated in on a partial breakaway late in the second period but saw his stick snapped in half by a trailing Chara. The Hurricanes' players were incensed that a penalty shot was not called. ... Sekera briefly exited the contest after blocking a shot by Boston RW Shawn Thornton, but returned shortly thereafter to score his third goal in two games and match captain Eric Staal and LW Nathan Gerbe with a club-best five tallies. ... Iginla extended his point streak versus Carolina to 10 games with the assist on Krejci's tally. The veteran has six goals and nine assists in the stretch.
