Canucks 3, Hurricanes 2

Ryan Kesler scored twice and rookie Eddie Lack turned aside 29 shots as Vancouver won in Carolina for the first time in over 11 years.

Tom Sestito also tallied and defenseman Jason Garrison notched two assists for the Canucks, who posted just their third victory in 11 contests (3-5-3) and snapped a three-game losing streak in the Tar Heel State.

Jordan Staal and Nathan Gerbe scored 10 seconds apart in the second period and Cam Ward finished with 27 saves for the Hurricanes, who have dropped six of eight (2-5-1).

Staal banged home a loose puck and Gerbe's sharp-angle shot following captain Eric Staal's bid on a breakaway forged a 2-2 tie just 49 seconds into the middle period. Vancouver regained the lead just 27 seconds later as Kesler spotted a loose puck following Chris Higgins' wraparound attempt and chipped it over a prone Ward for his team-leading 12th goal.

The Canucks converted on the power play for the fifth consecutive game as Kesler won an offensive-zone faceoff before cleaning up a rebound on the left doorstep at 3:24 of the first period. Vancouver doubled the advantage with 4:12 left in the session as Garrison's wrist shot from the point was deflected by Sestito, who was hovering over Ward at the time.
