Kings 3, Sharks 0

Jonathan Quick made 30 saves for his eighth career playoff shutout as visiting Los Angeles staved off elimination from its Western Conference first-round series for the second straight game.

Tyler Toffoli and Anze Kopitar scored 4:43 apart in the first period and Jeff Carter added a power-play goal for the Kings, who will attempt to even the series when they host Game 6 on Monday. Quick got busier as the game went on, stopping 10 shots in the second period and making 14 saves in the third.

Antti Niemi allowed three goals on 19 shots in just over 20 minutes for the Sharks, who had their five-game playoff home winning streak against Los Angeles come to an end. Alex Stalock relieved Niemi and turned aside all 22 shots he faced.

Toffoli gave Quick all the offensive support he needed at 8:09 of the first period. Tanner Pearson chased down a loose puck on the left wing and made a cross-ice pass to Toffoli, who dragged it past a defender before beating Niemi with a shot from the top of the slot.

Kopitar doubled the lead less than five minutes later by burying the rebound of captain Dustin Brown's shot during a 3-on-2 rush. Carter made it 3-0 during a power play just 22 seconds into the middle session, when his backhand pass attempt from the left side of the net caromed off Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart's skate and past Niemi.
