Predators 4, Oilers 1
Craig Smith scored twice and Pekka Rinne made 26 saves as Nashville opened a six-game road trip by snapping Edmonton's four-game winning streak.
Captain Shea Weber and Taylor Beck also tallied for the Predators, who were outscored 13-2 while losing all three meetings to the Oilers last season. Defenseman Roman Josi set up a pair of goals and Colin Wilson notched an assist while playing in his 300th career contest.
Taylor Hall scored his team-leading sixth goal for Edmonton, which fell to 4-2-0 on its season-high seven-game homestand and dropped to 0-5-1 against Western Conference representatives. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up an assist on Hall's tally, but his bid to end the scoreless draw early in the second period caromed off the crossbar.
After having an apparent goal disallowed early in the first period, Smith opened the scoring at 6:23 of the second as he cleaned up a rebound of Josi's sharp-angle shot and beat Ben Scrivens (31 saves). Nashville doubled the advantage 1:26 later as Beck redirected Wilson's slick cross-slot feed at the right doorstep before Weber's blast from the point gave Nashville a 3-0 lead 24 seconds into the third.
Rinne saw his bid for his 34th career shutout - and second of the season - come to an end at 8:54 of the third as Hall hammered home a rebound of Nugent-Hopkins' shot. The 31-year-old Finn wouldn't be solved again and Smith provided insurance 3 1/2 minutes later with a one-timer off an odd-man rush for his second goal of the contest.
