Coyotes 7, Oilers 4

Mikkel Boedker registered his first career hat trick and added an assist as host Arizona extended its point streak against Edmonton to 14 games.

Martin Erat recorded a goal and an assist while defenseman Connor Murphy, Kyle Chipchura and Rob Klinkhammer also scored for the Coyotes, who improved to 2-1-0 on their season-opening four-game homestand and 11-0-3 in their last 14 meetings with the Oilers. Martin Hanzal and captain Shane Doan each set up two goals while Mike Smith stopped 23 shots and added an assist.

Taylor Hall registered two goals and an assist while defenseman Mark Fayne and Mark Arcobello also scored as the Oilers completed an 0-2-1 road trip. Jordan Eberle notched two assists and Ben Scrivens made 23 saves for Edmonton, which allowed 17 goals on its trek and has yielded 22 in its first four games of the season.

Edmonton grabbed an early lead as Hall shoveled a centering pass from Eberle past Smith from alone on the doorstep 1:25 into the contest, but Arizona answered less than seven minutes later as Boedker's backhander during a breakaway caromed off the crossbar and into the net. The 24-year-old Dane gave the Coyotes a 5-3 advantage 9:07 into the third with a backhander that sneaked past Scrivens and capped his memorable performance with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Chipchura snapped a 1-1 tie with just over six minutes remaining in the first, converting Joe Vitale's pass from behind the net after a turnover. Fayne drew the Oilers even with 2:10 left in the period, firing the puck past Smith from the right faceoff circle after Leon Draisaitl's shot from the left wing went wide and caromed off the end boards, but Murphy put Arizona ahead for good 5:08 into the second with a shot from the top of the right circle.
