Islanders 2, Kings 1 (SO)

Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen scored in the shootout as visiting New York edged Los Angeles.

After Chad Johnson denied Anze Kopitar to begin the bonus format, Okposo lifted a backhander that beat Jonathan Quick to the stick side. Jeff Carter failed on the Kings' second attempt, and Nielsen clinched the victory by firing the puck between Quick's pads.

Brock Nelson scored in regulation for the Islanders, who are 2-2-0 on their five-game road trip. Johnson finished with 28 saves in his fifth start of the season and second on the trek.

Dwight King tallied for Los Angeles, which fell to 6-1-1 at home. Quick turned aside 25 shots as the Kings dropped to 1-3-2 over their last six overall contests.

Los Angeles took an early lead as Mike Richards' pass from along the left-wing boards caromed off King in front and past Johnson 3:49 into the contest. New York pulled even during a power play with 3:28 remaining in the opening period, when Nelson came out from behind the net on the right side and fired the puck between Quick and the right post.
