Hurricanes 6, Stars 4
Captain Eric Staal scored twice and Jiri Tlusty had one of his team's four second-period goals as visiting Carolina took advantage of another Dallas meltdown to halt a three-game losing streak.
Jeff Skinner, Patrick Dwyer and Victor Rask added second-period tallies for the Hurricanes, who had scored just two goals during their skid. Staal added an assist, defenseman John-Michael Liles set up a pair of goals and Cam Ward made 23 saves.
Tyler Seguin scored twice and captain Jamie Benn added his first goal in 12 games for the Stars, who allowed four tallies in a period for the second straight contest. Cody Eakin added a short-handed goal and an assist while Kari Lehtonen (12 saves) and Anders Lindback combined to stop 19 shots.
Benn needed just 1:48 to give the Stars the early lead, knocking in a nifty Vernon Fiddler backhand pass from behind the red line for his sixth goal. Seguin extended the lead with 3:26 remaining in the period, redirecting rookie John Klingberg's shot past Ward.
The Hurricanes roared back in the second as Skinner trimmed the deficit at 2:34 and Dwyer evened things at the seven-minute mark after breaking in and lifting a backhand shot past Lehtonen. Rask and Tlusty capped the second-period onslaught, Staal made it 5-2 after banging home his own rebound nine seconds into the third and Carolina survived goals from Eakin and Seguin to preserve the win.
