Islanders 3, Devils 1

Casey Cizikas recorded a short-handed goal and an assist as host New York completed the month with 11 wins in 14 games.

Nikolay Kulemin and Cal Clutterbuck also scored for the Islanders, who have won six of their last seven contests. Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves to extend his winning streak to nine games, a run during which he has allowed only 11 goals.

Damien Brunner netted the lone tally for the Devils, who have lost four straight contests and six of their last seven. Cory Schneider turned aside 25 shots in a losing effort.

New York grabbed the lead with 7:20 remaining in the first period. After Kyle Okposo's shot from the right faceoff circle got through Schneider and hit the right post, Kulemin used his backhand to tap the puck into the net as it lay in the crease.

The Devils pulled even 1:47 later as Brunner deflected defenseman Adam Larsson's shot from the right point past Halak. But the Islanders moved back ahead 3:32 into the second, when blue-liner Calvin de Haan's blast from above the slot glanced off Clutterbuck's skate and by Schneider, and Cizikas sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the waning seconds of the third as New York spent the final three minutes of the contest short-handed - including a 55-second stretch during which it was down two skaters.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Devils were without Cs Adam Henrique (upper body) and Travis Zajac (lower body), who were injured in Friday's shootout loss to Detroit and did not make the trip to Long Island. ...
