Flyers 4, Coyotes 3 (SO)

Wayne Simmonds scored in regulation and netted the lone goal of the shootout in the third round as Philadelphia sent visiting Arizona to its season-high seventh straight defeat (0-5-2).

Steve Mason, making his first appearance in 17 days in relief of an ineffective Ray Emery (two goals on four shots), made 22 saves en route to his first victory since Jan. 8. R.J. Umberger and defenseman Michael Del Zotto also scored as the Flyers won for the third time in four games.

Defenseman Connor Murphy and Martin Erat scored in the first period while Tobias Rieder converted a breakaway in the second for the Coyotes, who fell to 0-2-2 on their eight-game road trip. Mike Smith lost his sixth straight decision (0-4-2) despite making 39 saves.

After goals by Murphy and Erat in the first 5:50 of the game chased Emery, Simmonds started Philadelphia's comeback by jamming in a second rebound attempt at 9:02. Umberger tied it with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle at 13:55 of the second period, his fourth goal in nine games.

Del Zotto finished a 3-on-2 rush with a shot from the left circle that went in off the crossbar with 61 seconds left in the second to give the Flyers their first lead, but Rieder answered 23 seconds later to tie it at 3-3. Philadelphia continued to control play but couldn't break the deadlock and went to overtime despite owning a 41-24 advantage in shots.
