Hurricanes 2, Coyotes 1 (SO)

Elias Lindholm scored the lone goal of the shootout as visiting Carolina shaded Arizona.

After the Coyotes' Lucas Lessio opened the bonus format by rattling a shot off the post, Lindholm converted a forehand shot past Mike Smith. Cam Ward stopped Sam Gagner on Arizona's next attempt and Antoine Vermette hit the post on the Coyotes' final opportunity.

Victor Rask scored in regulation for the Hurricanes, who ended their three-game skid. Ward was sensational in preserving the victory, turning aside 28 shots in regulation and overtime.

David Moss netted the lone goal for Arizona, which saw its two-game winning streak come to an end. Smith made 40 saves in defeat.

Rask opened the scoring 63 seconds into the game, redirecting defenseman Ron Hainsey's shot from the left hash marks after attempting to set a screen. Moss drew the Coyotes even just over 5 1/2 minutes later, gathering blue-liner Keith Yandle's pass and firing a shot that glanced off Carolina forward Jeff Skinner's stick and eluded a fooled Ward.
