Stars 3, Rangers 2 (OT)

Ales Hemsky scored 1:02 into overtime as visiting Dallas snapped a three-game losing skid (0-2-1).

After Chris Kreider scored on a rebound to forge a 2-2 tie with 1:20 left in regulation, Hemsky gave the Stars their first win in seven contests that were decided in overtime. The forward breezed across the slot and around defenseman Dan Boyle before wristing a quick shot from the edge of the right circle that sailed over the shoulder of Cam Talbot.

Jason Spezza scored on a 5-on-3 power play and set up a pair of goals for Dallas, which also posted a 3-2 win against New York on Dec. 29. Erik Cole scored his eighth goal in 13 contests and Kari Lehtonen turned aside 34 shots, but made a costly mistake after his failed clearing attempt was intercepted by Mats Zuccarello before Kreider's power-play tally.

Carl Hagelin also scored and Talbot finished with 22 saves while making his third straight start for the Rangers, who have dropped two in a row after winning 19 of their previous 23. Rick Nash saw his four-game goal-scoring streak halted and found himself in a tie for the league lead as Washington captain Alex Ovechkin netted his 33rd tally in a 3-1 setback to Philadelphia on Sunday.

With New York defensemen Marc Staal and Boyle serving minor penalties, Dallas made several crisp passes before Spezza skated into the slot and deflected Tyler Seguin's sharp feed from deep in the left circle to open the scoring 2:53 into the second period. New York answered 15:27 into the second, as Kevin Hayes skated out from the right circle and found Hagelin at the left doorstep for an easy conversion before Cole wristed a shot from the slot that squirted past Talbot with 1:55 left in the second.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York G Henrik Lundqvist told reporters prior to the game that he would be at risk for a stroke if he kept playing with what he called a "sprained blood vessel" in his throat. "I won't play until I'm ready to play, and it won't be an issue moving forward after that," said Lundqvist, who is expected to be sidelined at least three weeks. ... Zuccarello had an assist on Kreider's tally to extend his point streak to five games. ... Dallas rookie D John Klingberg notched an assist on Spezza's tally, marking his 10th point in six contests (four goals, six assists).
