Stars 5, Bruins 3

Captain Jamie Benn scored a pair of first-period goals as Dallas posted its first regulation win at Boston since January 2001.

Defenseman Trevor Daley netted the tiebreaking tally with the Bruins on the power play and Vernon Fiddler matched his teammate with an unassisted short-handed goal as the Stars won their second in a row following a three-game skid. Erik Cole scored into an empty net - his sixth goal in 10 games - and Kari Lehtonen turned aside 41 shots as Dallas avenged a 3-1 home defeat to Boston exactly three weeks ago.

David Krejci, All-Star Patrice Bergeron and defenseman Dougie Hamilton tallied for the Bruins, who lost for the third time in four games. Tuukka Rask made 20 saves but was saddled with the loss after relieving Niklas Svedberg, who allowed three goals on 10 shots in his first appearance since Jan. 8.

Boston, the only team in the league that had yet to give up a short-handed goal, was burned during a five-minute power play as Fiddler intercepted a pass by Krejci and beat Svedberg on a breakaway at 7:28 of the first period. Krecji atoned for the miscue by scooping home a one-timer less than 3 1/2 minutes later, but Benn scored twice in a span of 3:15 - on a rush down the left wing and on a rebound - for a 3-1 advantage.

The Bruins countered with a short-handed tally of their own 26 seconds into the middle period, when Brad Marchand sent Bergeron in alone, before tying it at 6:42 as Hamilton skated in and buried a shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle. Dallas reclaimed the lead with another short-handed goal exactly seven minutes later as Daley raced in to bury his own rebound after Rask stopped his initial wrister.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dallas notched its seventh and eighth short-handed tallies, tying the New York Islanders for the league lead. ... Bergeron scored for the fourth time in six games since the All-Star break to tie Marchand for the team lead with 15. ... Stars LW Antoine Roussel received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for cross-checking Boston D Adam McQuaid in the throat early in the first period.
