Flyers 3, Blues 1

Defenseman Michael Del Zotto and Wayne Simmonds scored less than two minutes apart midway through the third period as Philadelphia concluded a 2-0-1 homestand.

Michael Raffl added an empty-net goal for the Flyers, who improved to 4-0-2 in their last six at home. Matt Read and blue-liner Luke Schenn each notched two assists while Steve Mason finished with 28 saves as Philadelphia climbed within four points of Boston for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

Jaden Schwartz netted the lone tally for the Blues, who fell to 2-1-1 on their five-game road trip. Brian Elliott turned aside 28 shots as St. Louis lost in regulation when leading after two periods for just the second time this season (25-2-2) and remained four points behind first-place Nashville in the Central Division.

The Blues opened the scoring with 7:08 remaining in the first period. Vladimir Tarasenko intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and carried the puck down the right wing before dishing it to Schwartz, who beat Mason to the stick side from the inner edge of the left faceoff circle.

The goal held up until 9:47 of the third, when Del Zotto unleashed a blast from above the left circle that found the top left corner of the net. Simmonds put Philadelphia ahead 1:50 later, redirecting defenseman Mark Streit's pass from the top of the slot past Elliott.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Del Zotto's goal was his ninth of the season, one shy of his career high set in 2011-12 with the New York Rangers. ... Simmonds increased his team-leading total to six game-winning goals. ...
