Avalanche 5, Coyotes 2

Ryan O'Reilly and captain Gabriel Landeskog each recorded a goal and an assist as visiting Colorado posted its third straight victory.

Jarome Iginla, Freddie Hamilton and Matt Duchene also scored for the Avalanche, who improved to 6-1-0 this month but remained seven points out of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Semyon Varlamov turned aside 28 shots as Colorado won for the 11th time in 15 contests.

Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson netted both goals for the Coyotes, who dropped to 1-15-1 over their last 17 games. Louis Domingue finished with 24 saves as Arizona was held to fewer than three goals for the ninth consecutive time.

Arizona opened the scoring 3:24 into the game as Ekman-Larsson converted a cross-slot pass by Sam Gagner from the right faceoff circle. O'Reilly was credited with the tying goal at 8:15, when Domingue inadvertently kicked in the puck after stopping the Colorado forward's breakaway chance.

Iginla put Colorado ahead 29 seconds later with a shot from the left faceoff circle that beat Domingue between the pads. Hamilton made it 3-1 at 8:09 of the second, redirecting defenseman Brad Stuart's blast from the right point for his first career goal, while Ekman-Larsson and Duchene traded tallies in the latter half of the third session before Landeskog sealed the win with an empty-netter.
