Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves to record his 35th career shutout while Ryan Strome and defenseman Travis Hamonic each collected a goal and an assist as visiting New York snapped its four-game losing streak.
Kyle Okposo added an empty-net goal for the Islanders, who completed a four-game season sweep of New Jersey and have won six in a row in the Garden State. Captain John Tavares picked up an assist to end his four-game point drought as New York remained five points behind the first-place New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division and two ahead of third-place Pittsburgh.
Cory Schneider turned aside 27 shots for the Devils, who saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt. New Jersey failed on its lone power-play opportunity to drop to 1-for-10 in its last six games.
Halak showed no ill effects of the lower-body injury that sidelined him for the previous eight days. The 29-year-old Slovakian preserved his fifth shutout of the season by denying Steve Bernier from point-blank range on a 2-on-1 rush in the third period.
Nikolay Kulemin knocked Devils defenseman Eric Gelinas off the puck in the corner before feeding Strome, who wired a shot from the left faceoff circle that sailed over the shoulder of Schneider 7:37 into the first period. Strome wasn't done as he flipped a backhanded feed to Hamonic, who blasted a shot from the left circle that beat Schneider at 12:19 of the third.
