Anze Kopitar scored with 4:23 remaining in the third period to snap a tie as visiting Los Angeles skated to its third straight win.
Nick Shore netted his first career goal and Tyler Toffoli added a short-handed tally for the Kings, who improved to 7-2-2 in their last 11 visits to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and moved one point ahead of Calgary for third place in the Pacific Division. Defenseman Alec Martinez notched two assists and Jonathan Quick finished with 25 saves to record the win in his 400th career game.
Blue-liner Johnny Boychuk scored on the power play and Frans Nielsen also tallied for the Islanders, who have mustered 10 goals while dropping six of their last seven (1-5-1) to reside two points ahead of third-place Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan Division. Jaroslav Halak turned aside 34 shots in defeat.
Los Angeles continued the pressure in the offensive zone before defenseman Andrej Sekera's slap-pass was redirected home in the slot by Kopitar to give the Kings a 3-2 lead late in the third period. New York was unable to net the equalizer and fell to 0-5-1 in its last six home games.
Blue-liner Travis Hamonic intercepted a pass by Jeff Carter in the defensive zone to set up a 3-on-1 rush, and Nielsen wired a shot from the right faceoff circle over the glove of Quick 5:31 into the second period to open the scoring. Captain Dustin Brown's centering feed caromed off Shore and into the net five minutes later before New York answered Toffoli's short-handed goal 1:55 into the third with Boychuk's blast from the point at 3:31 to forge a tie.
