Captain Gabriel Landeskog and Alex Tanguay each recorded a goal and an assist as visiting Colorado ended Vancouver's three-game winning streak.
Jarome Iginla and John Mitchell also scored for the Avalanche, who won two of the three contests in the season series. Ryan O'Reilly extended his point streak to six games with a pair of assists and Reto Berra made 33 saves in the victory.
Defenseman Yannick Weber scored in his third straight game for the Canucks, who fell to 1-1-0 on their three-game homestand and lead third-place Los Angeles by two points in the Pacific Division. Eddie Lack turned aside 34 shots as Vancouver lost for just the second time in seven contests.
After a scoreless first period, Colorado grabbed the lead 3:23 into the second as Iginla deflected Landeskog's shot from the high slot while standing alone on the doorstep. Tanguay doubled the lead midway through the session, beating Lack from the left side after defenseman Zach Redmond's shot from the right point went wide and caromed off the end boards.
Landeskog made it 3-0 during a power play less 2:39 later, when he converted a cross-slot pass from the left faceoff circle by Tanguay. Weber got Vancouver on the board 15 seconds into the third, rushing down the right wing and blasting the puck past Berra from the top of the faceoff circle for a man-advantage tally.
