Blues 4, Canucks 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Left winger Alex Steen scored on a pretty second-period passing play and added an assist as the St. Louis Blues used a 4-3 victory to snap a two-year losing streak against the Vancouver Canucks in NHL play Friday night.

Centers Jori Lehtera and Kyle Brodziak and defenseman Robert Bortuzzo also scored for the Blues. Right winger Vladimir Tarasenko added two assists.

Centers Brandon Sutter (shorthanded) and Jared McCann and left winger Daniel Sedin scored for Vancouver.

The Blues, playing back-to-back games and fourth in six nights, improved their record to 4-1-0. The Canucks are 3-1-1.

The last time the Blues beat the Canucks was a 2-1 shootout win on April 16, 2013.

Bortuzzo made it 4-1 at 16:14 of the third when he took a pass from right winger Troy Brouwer and fired it into the top corner of the night.

McCann, a rookie, scored at 16:44, swatting a puck out of the air for his second goal of the season. Sedin scored off a scramble with 28.8 seconds left after the Canucks pulled their goalie.

St. Louis scored twice in the second period, the first coming on an elegant play at 4:52.

Tarasenko intercepted a long pass from Canucks defenseman Alex Edler, then passed to center Paul Stastny as he broke into the Vancouver zone. Stastny passed back to Tarasenko, who then slipped it over to Steen, who beat Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller.

Bortuzzo made it 3-0 at 10:01 after Tarasenko fired a shot from the faceoff circle. Miller made the save but Bortuzzo took the rebound and shot it over a sprawling Miller.

The Canucks got on the scoreboard at 12:38. Sutter scored off a two-on-one breakaway, beating Blues goaltender Jake Allen on the short side.

Lehtera opened the scoring at 7:30 of the first period. Left winger Jaden Schwartz gained control of the puck along the boards, then sent a cross-ice pass to Lehtera. He waited for Miller to commit himself, then beat the Vancouver goaltender on the far side for his second goal of the year.
