Kings 4, Jets 1
WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Left winger Milan Lucic scored with just 4:41 left in the third period to spark the Los Angeles Kings to a closer-than-the-score-indicated 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.
Kings center Tyler Toffoli carried the puck into the Winnipeg zone on a two-on-one break and slid the puck across Lucic, who redirected it into an open net to break a 1-1 tie. Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec had no chance on the play.
Toffoli then scored his seventh goal of the year into an empty net with less than a minute left in the game, and center Trevor Lewis scored another empty netter with 27 seconds left to close things out.
The victory was the sixth straight for the Kings (6-3-0), who opened the season with three straight losses.
Right winger Nikolaj Ehlers scored his fourth goal of the season for the Jets (5-3-1) in the second period to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
But Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin notched his first goal of the year late in the period to tie it.
Ehlers finally snapped the scoreless tie with a wrist shot from the top of the circle that slipped right through Quick and found the back of the net for an unassisted tally at 8:45. It's the third game in a row the Danish rookie has scored in.
But Muzzin's rocket from just inside the blue line beat Pavelec at 15:50 with Lucic parked in front to even the contest 1-1. Kings right winger Dustin Brown and defenseman Drew Doughty picked up assists.
Pavelec made 28 saves for Winnipeg, while Quick had to block 24 shots for L.A.
