DETROIT -- Defenseman Niklas Kronwall's goal 26 seconds into overtime gave the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Right winger Gustav Nyquist, left winger Tomas Tatar and forward Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist each Detroit (12-8-3) and goaltender Howard made 21 saves.

Right winger Iiro Pakarinen scored two goals and defenseman Andrej Sekera had a goal for Edmonton (7-14-2) while goalie Cam Talbot made 28 saves.

Kronwall got his first goal of the season when he scored from the right circle after converting a pass from Larkin for the winner on a 2-on-1 rush.

Pakarinen capitalized on a giveaway by forward Darren Helm when Pakarinen tied the game 3-3, with his second goal of the game, 8:45 into the third period with a shot from the right circle.

The Red Wings led 3-2 after five goals were scored in the second period.

Nyquist gave Detroit a 1-0 lead 5:11 into the second with his eighth goal. Tatar made it 2-0 with 7:53 left in the middle period with his eighth goal.

Pakarinen made it 2-1 with 4:43 left in the second period. Sekera's power-play goal with 3:14 remaining in the second tied it at 2. It was Sekera's second goal of the season.

The Red Wings re-took the lead on Larkin's goal with 36 seconds left in the second period. He took a backhand pass from center and captain Henrik Zetterberg, cut in off the left wing and put a backhander past Talbot. It was Larkin's ninth goal.

Kronwall put a big hit on center Mark Letestu inside the Edmonton zone along the left-wing boards a little under seven minutes into the game. Edmonton left winger Matt Hendricks received a roughing minor penalty for retaliating against Kronwall, who wasn't penalized.

NOTES: It was Edmonton's first game since losing F Nail Yakupov, who is out two-to-four weeks after he sustained an ankle sprain in a 4-1 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday. He was taken to the ice by linesman Matt MacPherson following a neutral-zone faceoff. ... Oilers coach Todd McLellan is a former assistant coach for Detroit. ...
