Flames 2, Predators 1 (OT)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Overtime is always the right time for the Calgary Flames.
Defenseman Kris Russell scored on a 2-on-1 at 1:23 Tuesday night, giving Calgary its sixth straight win with a 2-1 decision over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.
Russell's second goal of the season upped the Flames to 14-14-2 and improved their record to 9-2 in games decided in overtime or a shootout. Left winger Johnny Gaudreau picked up the assist.
Goalie Karri Ramo (10-8-1) stopped 21 shots to earn the win, while Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne came up with 19 saves.
The Predators (15-10-6) fell to 3-4-3 in their last 10 games.
Nashville came out of the gate flying, scoring the game's first goal on a rare penalty shot. Center Cody Hodgson was hooked from behind on a breakaway by defenseman T.J. Brodie and buried a wrister at 5:09 of the first period.
It was Hodgson's third goal of the season and the Predators' 10th penalty shot tally in franchise history. Prior to that marker, the last penalty shot goal for Nashville came from Eric Nystrom in October of 2013.
The Predators owned a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal late in the first period, but Calgary found traction from that point on and eventually tied it.
Taking advantage of a blown defensive coverage, Brodie zipped down the slot and converted a pass by center Sam Bennett into the equalizer at 12:28 of the second period. It was Brodie's fourth goal and marked his seventh straight game with a point.
The Flames earned a late power play when defenseman Shea Weber was called for cross-checking Bennett at 17:40 of the third period, but couldn't convert.
