Blue Jackets 3, Flyers 2 (SO)
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Rookie goaltender Joonas Korpisalo had 30 saves and made five of six saves in the shootout, earning his first NHL win and guiding the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday in Nationwide Arena.
Left winger Brandon Saad and defenseman Ryan Murray scored goals for the Blue Jackets, who have won two straight for the first time since Nov. 27.
Columbus center Brandon Dubinsky scored in the sixth round of the shootout, allowing Korpisalo to win the game with a stop of Philadelphia's Brayden Schenn seconds later.
Korpisalo, 21, was recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League when starter Sergei Bobrovsky suffered a groin injury last week. He had lost his first two starts.
The Blue Jackets won for only the fifth time in 16 home games (5-8-3) this season.
The Flyers, who got 35 saves from goaltender Steve Mason, have lost both games against the Blue Jackets this season.
Columbus took a 1-0 lead at 14:01 as a power play expired. Saad took a pass down low from Dubinsky and spun to face Mason and beat him with a soft shot between his pads. It was Saad's 12th goal of the season.
The Blue Jackets pushed the lead to 2-0 late in the second period, scoring a power play goal after Philadelphia forward R.J. Umberger was given a double-minor penalty for high-sticking.
It was a disorganized power play, but Murray made it successful when he scored from the high slot after Columbus captain Nick Foligno found him from behind the net.
The Flyers scored at 5:32 of the third after a long shift spent in the Blue Jackets' end. Columbus was clearly gassed, allowing Laughton to skate from the left circle, through the high slot and through the right circle, finally beating Korpisalo with a wrister from the faceoff dot.
Philadelphia didn't stop there.
At 14:19 of the third, center Sean Couturier made a brilliant pass ahead to right winger Jake Voracek off the rush. Voracek, one of four former Blue Jackets on the Flyers' roster, scored over Korpisalo's left pad with a wrister from the left dot.
Two minutes later, Korpisalo darted quickly from right to left to rob Voracek of another goal.
