Senators 3, Blues 2 (OT)
ST. LOUIS -- The visiting Ottawa Senators recovered from a 2-0 deficit to gain a point for the tie at the end of regulation play, then won 3-2 with right winger Bobby Ryan's goal at 2:33 of the 3-on-3 overtime.
Ottawa snapped a three-game losing and inched toward .500 on the road, with a 9-10-2 mark. The Senators improved to 19-15-6 for 44 points, among seven teams in the hunt for the last four playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.
The Blues lost for the third consecutive game, though they received a point for the tie. Their winless-in-regulation streak reached six games, though they also have an OT win and a shootout win in that space. They fell to 23-14-5 for 51 points.
The Blues have earned points in seven straight against the Senators, including two shootout losses and two overtime losses (3-0-4).
Ryan scored twice for Ottawa, which tied the score 2-2 with a power-play goal at 5:01 of the final period. Ryan scored on a screened wrister just four seconds after Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was sent off for tripping.
Center Kyle Turris won the draw from Steen, and Ryan circled before shooting the wrist shot through the screen of Stone.
Right winger Troy Brouwer staked the Blues to a 1-0 lead at 14:16 of the first period, scoring for the seventh time this season. On a transition play from deep in the Blues zone, Brouwer worked the give-and-go with center Paul Stastny in the neutral zone, then broke in on right wing. He fended off Ottawa defenseman Patrick Wiercioch before beating goalie Andrew Hammond upstairs.
Left winger Alex Steen also assisted for the Blues.
Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 7:42 of the second period. With right winger Mark Stone off for hooking, Shattenkirk rattled the post with a slapshot straightaway from just inside the blueline. Hammond reacted as though he hadn't seen the shot behind a screen from center David Backes.
Steen and right winger Vladimir Tarasenko assisted.
Ottawa got that goal back with a power-play goal of its own, trimming the Blues lead to 2-1 at 18:46, with defenseman Carl Gunnarson serving a holding-the-stick penalty. Left winger Mike Hoffman wired a slapshot from the top of the left circle, and the puck slithered under the arm of Blues goalie Brian Elliott for Hoffman's 19th goal of the season.
Right winger Bobby Ryan and defenseman Eric Karlsson assisted.
