Blue Jackets 2, Canucks 1 (SO)

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Center Alexander Wennberg scored in the shootout as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 on Thursday night.

Wennberg, the third Blue Jackets shooter, beat Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller with a hard wrist shot. He was the only skater to score in the shootout.

Right winger Linden Vey scored on the power play in regulation for Vancouver while left winger Scott Hartnell's third-period, power-play goal for Columbus forced the overtime.

Miller stopped 27 shots and Korpisalo, who was making his sixth consecutive start, made 37 saves for the Blue Jackets.

Vancouver took advantage of a hooking penalty called on right winger Cam Atkinson to open the scoring at 9:05 of the first period. Center Bo Horvat showed his speed and strength on the play. He drove to the right side of the net, drawing the Blue Jackets defense, then flipped a pass to Vey, who scored his second goal of the season.

Columbus tied the game at 9:06 of the third period after Vancouver center Jared McCann was sent off for hooking. The Blue Jacket power-play, which had struggled earlier, found some life when Atkinson feathered a pass to Hartnell in the slot. He beat a screened Miller with a shot to the stick side for his 18th goal of the season.

The Canucks outshot the Blue Jackets 4-1 in the overtime. Vancouver was awarded a power play when Columbus center William Karlsson was called for interference with 2:34 left. The Canucks had their chances but couldn't beat Korpisalo.

Vancouver (20-19-12) has now lost three games in a row while the Blue Jackets (20-28-5), who have the worst record in the NHL, are now (3-1-1) in their last five games.
