Senators 6, Maple Leafs 1
OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-1 thumping of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night at Canadian Tire Centre.
Center Curtis Lazar led the Senators with two goals. Winger Zack Smith, center Mika Zibanejad, winger Bobby Ryan and winger Mark Stone had Ottawa's other goals.
Defenseman Erik Karlsson chipped in with three assists.
Winger P.A. Parenteau scored for Toronto.
Senators goalie Craig Anderson made 24 saves for the win.
Maple Leafs starting goalie James Reimer was replaced at 7:38 of the first period after giving up three goals on eight shots. Goalie Jonathan Bernier came in to to stop 14 of 17 shots.
The Senators led 4-0 entering the third period, then increased their lead by two when Stone was sent in by Karlsson at the 39-second mark of the third and Lazar notched his second goal of the night by muscling a puck over the line.
Parenteau broke Anderson's shutout bid at 3:25 of the third period when he had an open net off a rebound for his 13th goal of the season.
The Senators, who have surrendered the first goal in a league-high 35 games this season, turned the tables with quick strikes against the Maple Leafs.
Smith opened the scoring 19 seconds after the opening faceoff upon being presented an open side off a two-on-one with defenseman Marc Methot. It was his 10th goal of the season.
Just over four minutes later, center Jean-Gabriel Pageau stepped out of the penalty box for another two-on-one to set up Zibanejad's 11th goal of the season.
The Senators chased Reimer a little more than three minutes after that when Ryan's shot from the right faceoff circle beat him between his right arm and body. The goal was the 19th of the season for Ryan, who had 18 in 2014-15.
Lazar scored the only goal of the second period, taking a juicy rebound given up by Bernier to fire home his fourth goal of the season.
NOTES: First-line Senators C Kyle Turris was back in the lineup after missing six games with a lower-body injury. A game-time decision, Turris' return meant Binghamton call-up C Nick Paul was a last-minute scratch after being prepared to make his NHL debut. ... Senators LW Ryan Dzingel was also recalled from Binghamton and suited up in his second NHL game. ... Senators D Jared Cowen was a healthy scratch for the second game in a row and 11th time in the last 16 games. ... Maple Leafs C Martin Marincin was scratched for the fourth game in a row. ... Leafs G James Reimer arrived in Ottawa with an 11-3-2 record against the Senators. He was 8-2 in his last 10 games at Canadian Tire Centre.
