Maple Leafs 5, Canucks 2
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Right winger Mark Arcobello scored his first two goals of the season 17 seconds apart in the second period as the Toronto Maple Leafs ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
Left winger Brendan Leipsic also scored in his first NHL game as the Leafs (20-25-9) won in Vancouver for the first time in 13 years. Right winger Brad Boyes and center Leo Komarov scored into an empty net and defenseman Jake Gardiner had two assists.
Left winger Daniel Sedin scored for Vancouver (22-21-12), which saw a two-game win streak end.
Left winger Sven Baertschi scored late in the third when Vancouver pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker. Center Henrik Sedin, playing in his franchise-record 1,141st game as a Canuck, had an assist.
Vancouver goaltender Ryan Miller stopped 33 shots. Toronto goalie James Reimer made 17 saves.
Leipsic made it 3-1 at 3:54 of the third period. A shot from Toronto left winger Rich Clune bounced off defenseman Matt Bartkowski's head and Leipsic whacked the puck out of the air past Miller.
After not scoring in his first 13 games, Arcobello managed two quick goals to give Toronto a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
Daniel Sedin broke a seven-game scoring drought to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead at 3:18 of the second period. Henrik Sedin scooped up a turnover by Toronto right winger Michael Grabner, then gave the puck to right winger Jannik Hansen, who passed to Daniel Sedin for a shot that found the net from the slot.
Arcobello, playing in his third game after a recent call-up from the AHL, made it 1-1 at 4:27. The play started when Baertschi failed to clear the puck out of his own zone. Arcobello picked up the puck and beat Miller with hard shot.
The Maple Leafs, who outshot the Canucks 15-6 in the period, made it 2-1 at 4:44.
Defenseman Jake Gardiner skated through several Canucks, then passed to right winger Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau. He took a shot that Miller stopped, but Arcobello was there to put in the rebound.
The Leafs outshot the Canucks 16-7 during a scoreless first period.
