Senators 2, Sabres 1 (SO)
OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators outlasted the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in a shootout Tuesday night at Canadian Tire Centre to snap a three-game losing streak.
Winger Bobby Ryan and center Kyle Turris scored in the shootout, while Buffalo center Jack Eichel and winger Matt Moulson both failed to score on Senators goalie Craig Anderson.
The Sabres (23-28-7) saw their winning streak end at two games.
Moulson ended a personal 44-game slump by scoring for the Sabres in the first period, while Senators winger Ryan Dzingel replied with the first goal of his NHL career.
Much of the rest of the night belonged to Anderson, who made 38 saves, and Sabres goalie Robin Lehner, who stopped 25 shots.
The Sabres held a 35-24 shot advantage after three periods. Buffalo had a 4-2 edge in shots during overtime and nearly ended the game in the last minute, when Anderson stopped Eichel on a breakaway.
Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson was also robbed by Lehner during the extra five minutes.
The Senators (26-26-6) gave up the first goal of a game for a league-high 39th time when Moulson notched his fifth of the season, and first since Nov. 1, at 6:01 of the opening period.
The goal was set up by Eichel, who scored twice in Buffalo's 3-2 win over the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Jan. 26.
From the side of the net to Anderson's right, Eichel sent a blind backhand pass in front that found the tape of Moulson's stick. Moulson wasted no time in pulling the puck to his backhand and beating Anderson on the deke.
Dzingel pulled the Senators even just 69 seconds later, finding the puck in a scramble and sending a shot through the legs of Sabres winger Marcus Foligno to the back of the net.
Anderson was the star of the second period, stopping all 18 shots he faced. The Senators tested Lehner nine times in the period.
