Blues 2, Stars 1 (OT)
ST. LOUIS -- Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored on a power play 1:11 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 2-1 victory Tuesday over the Dallas Stars.
The win improved the Blues record to 4-0-1 in their last five games and snapped the Stars' four-game winning streak. The Blues pulled within five points of the first-place Stars in the Central Division.
The Blues began overtime on the power play after Dallas defenseman Jason Demers was called for interference with 14 seconds to go in the third period.
Left winger Jaden Schwartz, playing for the first time at home since the season opener Oct. 8 after missing 49 games because of a broken ankle, gave the Blues a 1-0 lead off a lucky bounce 12 seconds into the second period.
Defenseman Colton Parayko attempted to dump the puck into the offensive zone, but if deflected off the leg of referee Kelly Sutherland directly to Schwartz, who tapped in into the empty net vacated by goalie Keri Lehtonen after he went behind the net in an attempt to play the puck before it bounced in the other direction.
The Stars had only nine combined shots on goal through the first two periods, including going 0 of 4 on the power play in the first period, when the highest scoring team in the league had three shots on goal.
Dallas, which ended up 0 for 7 on the power play, broke through against goalie Brian Elliott with 6:34 to go in the third period. Center Mattias Janmark scored his 13th goal of the year off a rebound of a shot by left winger Valeri Nichushkin.
The Stars had kept it a 1-0 game before Janmark's goal by killing off four Blues' power plays in the second period, including 1:08 of a 5-on-3 advantage.
They had a chance to win it in regulation when Blues defenseman Carl Gunarsson was called for high-sticking with 2:03 to go, but could not convert.
