Rangers 1, Red Wings 0 (OT)

NEW YORK -- Defenseman Kevin Klein scored with 3:01 remaining in overtime to give the New York Rangers a 1-0 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.

Klein snapped the winner home off a 2-on-1 rush, collecting a pass from center Kevin Hayes and rifling a shot over the catching glove of Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard.

Klein's goal punctuated a goaltending duel between Howard and New York's Henrik Lundqvist; Howard made 29 saves while Lundqvist stopped 22 shots.

The game was scoreless for three periods thanks to solid goaltending from Lundqvist and Howard along with help from the iron.

One of the Rangers' best chances to get on the scoreboard during the opening 40 minutes came early in the first period. Defenseman Dan Girardi found himself alone at the top of the crease and had his point-blank attempt denied. The rebound caromed back to his stick, but Girardi hit the post on his second opportunity.

Left winger Justin Abelkader also had a 1-on-1 chance from in the front of the net midway through the first period but Lundqvist denied the backhand attempt.

The best chance for either team came midway through the second period. Center Pavel Datsyuk had the puck in the right-wing circle and made a pass through a maze of bodies to left winger Henrik Zetterberg. With Lundqvist out of position and the net yawning, Zetterberg's wrist shot rang off the left post.

The Rangers appeared to take a 1-0 lead early in the third period when center Kevin Hayes banked a shot off Howard from a sharp angle. But the Red Wings challenged and the goal was overturned when replay showed the skate of left winger Oscar Lindberg catch Howard in the mask a second before the Hayes shot.

About a minute later, Datsyuk hit the post on a 2-on-1 chance.

Rangers right winger Jesper Fast was awarded a penalty shot with 5:25 remaining but his stick-side attempt was turned aside by Howard.
