Sharks 3, Canucks 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Patrick Marleau scored on a two-on-one breakaway at 5:29 of the third period as the San Jose Sharks rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 Thursday night.

It was Marleau's 92nd career game-winning goal.

Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis got caught in the San Jose zone, allowing Marleau and Joonas Donskoi to skate into the Canuck zone. Donskoi threaded a pass past Canucks defenseman Matt Bartkowski, and Marleau beat Vancouver goaltender Ryan Miller on the blocker side for his 19th of the season.

Tomas Hertl had a goal and an assist for the Sharks (35-22-6). Brent Burns, on the power play, also scored for San Jose, which improved to 17-4-4 in its past 25 games.

Jake Virtanen and Sven Baertschi scored for Vancouver, and Virtanen added an assist. The Canucks (24-27-12) lost their third consecutive game and fell to 2-7-0 in their past nine games. It also was the 11th time this season the Canucks lost after leading following two periods.

Sharks goaltender Martin Jones made 28 saves. Miller stopped 27 shots for Vancouver.

The Sharks scored four unanswered third-period goals to defeat Vancouver 4-1 Sunday.

Burns tied the game 2-2 just 43 seconds into the third period.

With the Sharks on a power play, he took a pass from Hertl and blasted a shot through traffic that beat Miller under his stick arm. It was Burns' 22nd second goal of the season.

After being badly outplayed in the first period the Sharks found their legs in the second. They outshot Vancouver 16-8 and reduced Vancouver's lead to 2-1 with Hertl's goal at 10:29.

Hertl was battling with Vancouver defenseman Ben Hutton in front of the net when he deflected Burns' point shot past Miller. The Canucks argued it was scored on a high stick, but after a review, the goal stood.

The Canucks led 2-0 after a first period in which they outshot San Jose 15-7.

Virtanen opened the scoring at 7:14. He picked up a puck along the boards, used his speed to charge the net, and took a shot from a sharp angle that Jones stopped. Virtanen got the rebound, swooped behind the net, and attempted a centering pass that hit San Jose's Joe Pavelski and deflected into the goal.

Baertschi made it 2-0 at 18:31. He was battling Sharks defenseman Brenden Dillon in front of the net when he deflected a shot from Hamhuis past Jones.
