Canucks rally for OT win over Hurricanes

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Brandon Sutter scored 32 seconds into overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night.

Sutter picked up a loose puck in the Canucks zone, skated the length of the ice, and fired a shot over the shoulder of Carolina goaltender Eddie Lack.

The Canucks trailed 3-1 heading into the third but tied the game on goals from center Markus Granlund and defenseman Ben Hutton.

Defenseman Justin Faulk scored a goal and added an assist for Carolina. Center Victor Rask and left winger Teuvo Teravainen, on the power play, also scored for the Hurricanes, who are 0-6-3 in their past nine visits to Vancouver.

Center Bo Horvat also scored for the Canucks. Horvat's goal was his sixth in four career games against Carolina.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 19 shots in his first start of the season for Vancouver.

Lack made 27 saves for the Hurricanes.

Carolina, which began the season with a 5-4 overtime loss in Winnipeg, a game it lead 4-1 at one point, fell to 0-0-2.

The Canucks, who defeated the Calgary Flames 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night, are 2-0-0.

Granlund started Vancouver's comeback at 1:11 of the third.

Sutter intercepted Faulk's clearing attempt and sent the puck to Jannik Hansen. The right winger passed to Granlund, who was alone at the side of the net.

Hutton tied the game at 14:10. He took a pass from right winger Derek Dorsett and fired a shot through a crowd that beat Lack.

Faulk's first goal of the season made it 3-0 Carolina at 5:28 of the second period. Skating in on net, he took a shot that Markstrom stopped. Faulk barged his way between two Vancouver defenseman and put the rebound into the net.

Horvat closed the gap for the Canucks at 12:03. When a Carolina clearing attempt along the boards failed, Horvat picked up the loose puck, went to the net, and put a backhand past Lack on the far side.

The Canucks outplayed the Hurricanes most of the first period, outshooting Carolina 8-1 at one point. The Hurricanes rallied with goals 1:34 apart to take a 2-0 lead.

Rask got the first goal at 17:36 on a pretty give-and-go play. He won a battle along the boards then fed the puck to right winger Lee Stempniak. Stempniak went behind the net, then dropped a pass back to Rask, who beat Markstrom with a hard shot to the far side.

The Hurricanes jumped ahead after Vancouver center Henrik Sedin was sent off for holding.

Faulk blasted a shot from the point that was deflected in front of the net. Markstrom was still looking for the puck when Teravainen took a shot that hit a body and went into the net at 19:10.
