Senators use four-goal third to defeat Coyotes
OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators scored four goals in the third period to defeat the Arizona Coyotes 7-4 on Tuesday night at Canadian Tire Centre.
Wingers Bobby Ryan, Tom Pyatt, Zack Smith, Mark Stone, centers Chris Kelly and Kyle Turris and defenseman Erik Karlsson scored for Ottawa (3-1-0).
Goaltender Craig Anderson made 31 saves in recording his third win of the season.
Winger Jordan Martinook scored twice for Phoenix (1-1-0) while center Tobias Rieder and defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson had the others.
The Coyotes lost goaltender Mike Smith with what appeared to be a left leg injury with 12:42 left in the third. Smith made 27 saves, while his replacement, Louis Domingue, stopped eight of 11 shots.
The Senators led 3-1 after the second period but had their lead cut in half when Ekman-Larsson beat Anderson with a slap shot over his catching glove 1:01 into the third.
The Senators promptly took advantage of a cold Domingue to break the game open.
Seconds after Smith left, Kelly broke in from the right side and beat Domingue with a shot to the short side.
Stone increased the lead to 5-2 only 41 seconds later. Domingue made the original save with his left pad off a shot by Turris, but Stone was there to fire home the rebound.
The Coyotes closed the gap when an unattended Martinook beat Anderson with a low shot from the right wing face-off circle.
Turris added his third of the season with 1:47 to go, beating Domingue with a high shot from the left wing circle.
Martinook picked up his second of the night with 1:17 go, but Karlsson raced down the ice for an empty netter at 19:47.
Rieder started the scoring with his first of the season at 12:18 of the opening period when he swatted home a rebound off a shot by Coyotes center Dylan Strome.
Less than a minute and a half later, the Senators tied it up with their first power play goal on their 10th try of the season when Ryan was on the edge of the crease to deflect a point wrister by winger Mike Hoffman. It was the second of the campaign for Ryan.
Pyatt put the Senators in front when he jumped in to shovel a loose puck over Smith at 15:16 of the period.
The Senators increased their lead to 3-1 with the only goal of the second period, a shorthanded effort by Smith off a 2-on-1 with Pyatt. It was the second shorthanded goal of the season for the Senators, who led the NHL in that category in 2015-16.

Coyotes D Jakob Chychrun also missed his first game as a healthy scratch ....With the addition of Chabot, Senators coach Guy Boucher went with an alignment of seven defensemen and 11 forwards. Senators LW Matt Puempel, who played Monday in Detroit, was a healthy scratch for the second time this season. Senators LW Phil Varone was a healthy scratch for the second game in a row.
