Monahan lifts Flames past Blues in final seconds of OT

ST. LOUIS – Sean Monahan scored with three seconds left in overtime to give the Calgary Flames a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Flames and ended a four-game winning streak for the Blues.

Monahan was able to knock a rebound past goalie Jake Allen just as the game appeared headed for a shootout.

The Flames had a chance to win in the closing minutes of the third period after Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was called for delay of game with 2:04 left, but they could not score on the ensuing power play.

The Flames had rallied for a 2-2 tie on the first goal of the season by defenseman Matt Bartkowski, whose shot on a delayed penalty deflected off the skate of Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester and into the net at 10:53 of the third period.

The goal came three minutes after the Blues had gone ahead on a goal by Jaden Schwartz, who knocked in the rebound of a shot deflected by Kyle Brodziak. Schwartz and goalie Brian Elliott both ended up in the net, but a video review confirmed the goal.

Former Blues player Troy Brouwer scored the first goal on a power play at 17:11 of the first period. His wrist shot went over the glove of Allen, the first man-advantage goal for Calgary in six games, ending an 0-of-12 streak.

The goal came while the Blues' Scottie Upshall was serving a minor slashing penalty and snapped a streak of 19 consecutive penalties killed by the Blues.

The Blues got the tying goal 8:08 into the second period. Ivan Barbashev's initial shot was blocked in front of the goal, but he gathered in the rebound and fired the puck past Elliott.
