Late goals send Senators past Kings

OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators scored twice in the final 3:54 to defeat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 on Friday night at Canadian Tire Centre.

Winger Mark Stone notched the winner with just 6.5 seconds left on the clock, banging in a rebound after defenseman Erik Karlsson's point shot was stopped by goalie Peter Budaj. The goal was just the second of the season for Stone.

Winger Zack Smith started the comeback with just under four minutes left.

Goalie Craig Anderson stopped 32 shots to pick up his seventh win of the season.

Kings goalie Jeff Zatkoff played the first two periods, stopping all 18 shots he faced before being replaced by Budaj to begin the third period. Budaj stopped 13 shots.

Scoring the Kings goal was winger Dwight King. His second goal of the season at 56 seconds of the second period was set up by center Jeff Carter, who picked up the puck in the offensive zone and weaved around Senators before taking a backhand that appeared to deflect past Anderson off King's knee.

Winger Teddy Purcell received the other assist on the goal, King's second of the season.

Smith tied the score with 3:54 left in regulation, taking an initial shot from the right wing faceoff circle that was stopped by Budaj, then batted the rebound out of midair into the net. The goal, Smith's first in 10 games, was his third of the season.

Center Jean-Gabriel Pageau and defenseman Erik Karlsson picked up assists.
