Dumba's OT goal pushes Wild past Sens
OTTAWA -- Defenseman Matt Dumba scored with 1:03 left in overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Sunday.
Dumba lunged forward to convert a pass from center Mikael Granlund, who was behind the Senators net. It was his second goal of the season.
Senators goalie Craig Anderson made 40 saves, including 37 through three periods. Darcy Kuemper stopped 35 shots in the Minnesota net.
Defenseman Ryan Suter scored for the Wild in regulation time while center Kyle Turris replied for the Senators.
The Senators (9-5-1) lost for the first time in five overtime games. The Wild (8-5-1) rebounded from a loss in Philadelphia on Saturday night.
The Senators erased a 1-0 deficit at 5:06 of the third period on Turris' team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Turris accepted a pass from winger Chris Neil, skated to the right wing face-off dot and fired a low shot that beat Kuemper to the stick side, with Neil at the edge of the crease causing a distraction.
Suter gave the Wild the lead with a shorthanded goal at the 18:36 mark of the opening period. After crossing the Senators blue line, he passed to center Eric Stall, who broke to the net and fired a backhand that Anderson kicked out. Unfortunately for the Senators, he kicked it right to Suter, who went to the net for the rebound and fired the puck into the open side.
The goal was Suter's fourth of the season. It also marked the 10th time in 15 games the Senators had given up the first goal.
The Wild and a goal called back in the last minute of the second period, when it was ruled center Mikko Koivu's stick was above the height of the crossbar when he batted the puck into the net.
The Senators power play struggles continued as they went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. Ottawa has just two goals on 28 power play chances at home this season.
