Gaudreau's OT goal stops Flames' four-game slide
OTTAWA -- Johnny Gaudreau scored at 4:29 of overtime to snap the Calgary Flames losing streak at four games with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday.
Gaudreau banged home a pass from Mikael Backlund on a 2-on-0 breakaway for the winner.
The Senators rallied from a 2-0 third-period hole to earn a point.
Chris Wideman's goal with 1:02 left in regulation sent the game into overtime. With goalie Mike Condon on the bench for an extra attacker, Wideman one-timed a pass from Mike Hoffman to beat Brian Elliott low to the glove side.
Tommy Wingels, playing in his first game for the Senators, started the comeback at 2:10 of the third when he deflected Fredrik Claesson's shot from the point.
The Flames built their lead with two goals in the second.
Michael Ferland opened the scoring at 9:39 of the middle frame off a rush started by a Senators turnover in the neutral zone. After taking a drop pass from Matt Stajan, Ferland took a shot that was stopped by Condon, who tried to clear the rebound but put it right back on Ferland's stick for a shot at the open side. It was Ferland's sixth of the season.
Sean Monahan put Calgary up a pair at 17:08 of the second with a slick move. After Condon made the initial stop on Dougie Hamilton, Monahan went for the rebound, jammed his own stick between his legs and flipped the puck over a sprawled Condon. It was his 16th of the season.
Condon made 23 saves in the Senators net while Elliott stopped 25 shots.
