Jets 3, Hurricanes 1
Captain Andrew Ladd scored his 100th career goal and Chris Mason made 20 saves to lead the visiting Winnipeg Jets to a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
Evander Kane added his ninth goal of the season and defenseman Zach Bogosian recorded a pair of assists for the Jets, who improved to 4-0-1 in their last five games to pull out of last place in the Southeast Division.
After averaging just under five goals in its previous four games, Winnipeg won with defense on Friday. The Jets limited the Hurricanes to 21 shots on goal and blocked 18 shots.
Carolina knotted it at 1-1 when Jiri Tlusty found himself in a one-on-one in the Jets end and beat Mark Stuart before wristing it in.
But Winnipeg got that one back just over a minute later. Nik Antropov sent the puck in toward the net and Cam Ward made the initial save but could not control the rebound. Ladd swatted at it twice from the doorstep, shoving it past Ward’s pad for his eighth goal.
Ladd was at least one point in each of the last five games.
Bryan Little added an empty-net goal to put it away.
