Oilers 3, Avalanche 2
All-Star Jordan Eberle and Eric Belanger scored first-period goals and Taylor Hall tallied in the third as the Edmonton Oilers held on for a 3-2 triumph over the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves for Edmonton, which scored more than two goals for the first time in 10 contests. The Oilers, who have won three of four at Rexall Place, improved to 8-1-4 in their last 13 home meetings with the Avalanche.
Eberle opened the scoring five minutes into the game with his 19th goal of the season. The 21-year-old reversed direction behind the net and stuffed his second attempt past Semyon Varlamov at the left post for a 1-0 lead.
Making his NHL debut, Philippe Cornet recorded an assist on the play.
Belanger beat Varlamov with a blast from the right faceoff circle during a power play late in the first period to double the advantage and end his 18-game goalless drought.
Peter Mueller halved the deficit 76 seconds into the middle session, but Hall buried a rebound in the low slot six minutes into the third to make it 3-1.
Rookie Gabriel Landeskog scored midway through the final period for Colorado, which has lost three straight overall and 14 of 20 on the road.
