AVALANCHE 3, OILERS 2 (SO): Peter Mueller scored in regulation and also tallied in the second round of the shootout as host Colorado secured its seventh win in 10 games.
Cody McLeod also tallied in regulation and Semyon Varlamov turned aside 28 shots before denying both attempts in the shootout. The Avalanche reside in eighth place in eighth place in the Western Conference.
After captain Milan Hejduk beat Nikolai Khabibulin over the glove in the first round, Varlamov denied Jordan Eberle following a poke check. Mueller also beat Khabibulin glove side and Varlamov ended the contest by stopping Sam Gagner.
Taylor Hall netted his second goal in as many games to level the contest at 2-2 with 4:43 remaining in the third period. Ryan Smyth, who played two seasons in Colorado, also scored and Khabibulin stopped 30 shots for the Oilers.
After McLeod knotted the game at 1-1 following a brilliant feed from defenseman Ryan Wilson 4:44 into the second period, Mueller gave Colorado its first lead just 5:21 later.
Hejduk skated toward the net and Mueller cleaned up the rebound for his fifth point in his last four contests.
