Canadiens 4, Sabres 3 (SO)

CANADIENS 4, SABRES 3 (SO): Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais scored in the shootout and All-Star Carey Price denied both attempts as visiting Montreal defeated Buffalo for the first time in seven meetings.

After going more than a year without scoring, Scott Gomez netted his second goal in five contests. Defensemen Chris Campoli and Tomas Kaberle also scored for the Canadiens, who snapped a modest two-game skid and moved into 11th place in the Eastern Conference. Montreal now sits six points behind eighth-place Toronto.

Defenseman Tyler Myers scored for his 100th career point in his 200th NHL game. Fellow blue-liner Robyn Regehr also tallied for the first time in 69 contests for the Sabres, who dropped their fourth straight game.

Price denied Brad Boyes' wrister in the first round and captain Jason Pominville's snap shot to set the stage for Desharnais, who wristed his attempt past Ryan Miller to end the game.

With 8:05 left in the third period, Tyler Ennis leveled the contest at 3-3 after taking Ville Leino's brilliant backhanded centering feed and rifling a shot past Price.

Campoli had given Montreal its first lead of the contest at 3-2 midway through the second period. The defenseman skated with the puck across the high slot before wiring a shot from the fringe of the left faceoff circle past Miller for his second goal of the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Regehr netted his first goal since March 1, 2011. ... Myers tied Hannu Virta for the second-most points by a Sabres defenseman in his first 200 games with the club.
