Sabres 3, Canadiens 2 (OT)

SABRES 3, CANADIENS 2: Defenseman Tyler Myers fired a wrist shot past Peter Budaj at 2:01 of overtime as host Buffalo won for the sixth time in eight games and improved its position in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.

Myers trailed the play and took a feed from Derek Roy before scoring his third overtime goal of the season.

Tyler Ennis had two goals for the Sabres, who won for the eighth time in the last nine meetings with Montreal and moved to within two points of eighth-place Washington.

Montreal's David Desharnais finished a mad scramble in front of the Buffalo net to tie the score with 4.6 seconds left in regulation.

After Erik Cole’s blast past a screened Ryan Miller to open the scoring at 4:32 of the first period, Ennis made the nightly highlight reels with his first goal at 11:08 in the second period.

The 5-foot-9 speedster undressed a rusty Andrei Markov with a fake shot before beating Budaj stick side with a quick move to the forehand.

Ennis followed that by banking a centering pass attempt off the stick of Alexei Emelin and into the net to give the Sabres a 2-1 lead just under two minutes into the third period.

Budaj, starting in place of Carey Price, stopped 33 shots and has only two wins in his last nine appearances.

Buffalo winger Drew Stafford assisted on both Ennis goals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Budaj started only his 11th game of the season. … Montreal has scored first in four of five meetings with Buffalo this season. … Buffalo winger Matt Ellis sat with a knee injury.
