On the last Back 9 Report radio show author Shane Ryan, whose new book “Slaying the Tiger: A Year Inside the Ropes of the New PGA Tour," came on the show to talk about an excerpt from the book.
He alleges Patrick Reed was dismissed from the University of Georgia golf team after his Freshman year due to problems with two DUI's.
He also contends that Reed’s teammates on the Georgia Golf Team, Hudson Swofford, Russell Henley, Harris English and Brian Harman accused Reed of cheating and stealing.
The book won’t hit bookstores until May, but Sports Illustrated Alan Shipnuck was about to release an article about Reeds transgressions at UGA and Ryan wanted be the first out with the news.
Young players continue to dominate on golf tours around the world. Brooks Koepka won the Waste Management Phoenix Open, 17-year-old Lydia Ko didn’t win, but jumped to No. 1 on the Rolex Ranking and Rory McIlroy continued his winning ways in Dubai.
The Practice Range section included an in depth discussion about the state of Tiger Woods’ ailing golf game. Although Woods’ swing speed has increased by nearly six mph from last year, he shot 73-82 and finished near the bottom of the field missing the 36-hole cut.
His chipping woes continued and he missed fairways by a wide margin. Questions linger, Will he be able to repair his short game and find enough fairways to be able to compete in the majors later this season?
