The PGA Tour starts the Florida Swing this week on its annual run up to the Masters Tournament at the beginning of April.
The Honda Classic, WGC-Cadillac at Trump Doral, Valspar Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational all boast strong fields as the top names prepare for the season’s first major tournament.
World No. 1, Rory McIlroy will make his 2015 PGA Tour debut at the Honda Classic this week. He has a residence nearby and this is somewhat of a home game for him. He has settled the lawsuit with his former management company and is coming off a win at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour.
He won this tournament in 2012. Look for Rory to have a very good week.
There is a strong contingent of young guys in this tournament and the golf course can be tricky especially if the winds become a factor. Jordan Spieth is not in the field, but Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka are and both have all been playing at a very high level this year.
Thomas has three top-10 finishes in his ten starts and is up to No. 32 in the FedEx Cup chase.
This is also a home game for Koepka. He practices and plays a lot of golf in the Palm Beach area. His win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open gives him a ton of confidence.
If you are looking for a more familiar name to choose in your Fantasy League this week, how about, Vijay Singh.
Singh is a Florida resident and is coming off a very strong performance in the Northern Trust Open last week.
His first three rounds of 66-74-69 placed him among the leaders, until his final round 72 dropped him to T-12. Even at 52 years of age, he can still strike the ball as well as anyone, if his putter doesn’t protest too much he could be a solid pick this week.
