With the RBC Heritage going into its final day, the leaderboard is full of players desperate for a victory. One player that we are all familiar with on the leaderboard is Camilo Villegas who was at one point one of the best players in all of golf and was one of strongest hitters on tour. He hasn’t had a PGA Tour victory since the 2010 Honda Classic.
Defending U.S. Open champ Webb Simpson is in second place and loos to try to add another win on his resume. Although he has had a quiet season overall, he is still one of the most dangerous players in the game. His putting is still solid and he is still a solid hitter off the tee and is decent with his approach shots.
Villegas though, is much better with his approach shots as he ranks 15th on Tour in green approach percentage and that’s what’s truly going to help him win this tournament if he prevails. He has the skills still, he has the power off the tee and the approach but his putting is the only other question. Three years a long time to not have a victory so he is definitely hungry for a win at Hilton Head on Sunday. Tim Clark who performed fairly well at The Masters is in contention as well and despite not being strong in most of the stats this season, he is one of the most accurate hitters on tour and that’s what’s going to be making him dangerous during Sunday’s round. He’s still top 100 in most statistical categories and is top 70 in Birdie Average.
Clark’s putting needs to stay consistent while maintain his incredible driving accuracy in order to have a shot. RBC Heritage leader Charley Hoffman is 13th in the one stat that is huge, especially at this tournament and that stat is birdie Average which I mentioned above. Hoffman will run away with this tournament if stays persistent with his birdie chances and nails the greens from the fairway then he should be in great shape to get his third PGA Tour victory.
Hoffman also ranks 13th in Par Breakers and is top 100 in every main category however he is 64th in Scoring Average but is seventh in birdies on par 5’s. That stat will be beneficial for the Las Vegas native as Harbour Town is known for its combination of long and short holes. If it’s one thing that will stop Hoffman it’s his ability at the par 3’s so we will have to see how Hoffman does on Sunday’s round.
Kevin Streelman, who is already a winner this year on the PGA Tour, is looking to try to knock off Simpson and Hoffman to get his second victory of the season. The Chicago native has exceptional stats this year ranking in the top 50 in almost every major category with only two stats being in triple digit ranks. Three major stats for Streelman are his Total Driving, Scoring Average and Driving Accuracy Percentage in which he ranks eighth, 19th and 20th respectively. Streelman has had a great year thus far and has the fire of a winner as he tries to rise up in the ranks as one of the game’s elite.
The one thing that will destroy Streelman’s chances in this tournament and others is that he is not very good on par 4’s which can come back to haunt him because as we know the majority of holes on any golf course are par 4’s so if he doesn’t work on his par 4 game then he will be a big trouble in come Sunday especially with the pressure on the line. But again, Streelman has proven that he is a winner on Tour and his ability to finish strong at tournements shows and despite his ability on par 4’s, he is a great player on par 3’s and par 5’s as he is ranked in the top 30 on when getting birdies or better on par 4’s and par 5’s. He also ranks 14th in ball striking which is also huge especially at Harbor Town where players need to be point blank with accuracy.
On that note, I believe that Streelman will win the 2013 RBC Heritage Classic.
Two other guys to look out for are Brandon De Jonge and Greame McDowell as well.
