Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama Impress at Presidents Cup

Youngsters, Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama both continued to impress teammates and fans alike at the Presidents Cup.

Spieth is just 20 years old and has a 2-1 record teamed with veteran Steve Stricker through the first three sessions.

Adam Scott has taken 21-year-old Matsuyama under his wing and together they are helping to keep the International team competitive.

Matsuyama announced his presence to the golf world with a win in the 2010 Asian Amateur Championship while still an 18-year-old student at Tohoku Fukushi University in Sendai, Japan. The win gained him entry into the 2011 Masters where he was the only amateur to make the cut.

Matsuyama won the 2011 Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters on the Japan Golf Tour as an amateur. Since turning professional earlier this year, he won three more Japanese professional tournaments in 2013.

He is long and accurate with his driver and combines that with a deft putting touch around the greens.

Matsuyama has helped win 1.5 points through three sessions for the International team and will be a formidable opponent for whomever he draws in the singles on Sunday.

Spieth is topping off one of the most impressive years ever witnessed on the PGA Tour. He decided to exit the University of Texas in his sophomore year and join the professional ranks.

He began the year with no status on any professional tour and was ranked No. 809 in the world. He was forced to seek sponsor’s exemptions on the PGA Tour. After a runner-up in Puerto Rico and a T-7 in Tampa he gained special temporary exemption on the PGA Tour.

His win at the John Deere Classic gave him a full PGA Tour exemption, entry into the majors and the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Spieth tied Bill Haas and Brandt Snedeker for the most top-10 finishes in 2013 with nine.

He posted three top-10 finishes in the FedEx Cup playoffs and forced Fred Couples to choose him as a captain’s pick for the Presidents Cup.

It would be a glimpse into the future if Captains Price and Couples would pit these two super rookies against each other on Sunday.
