Korean Mirim Lee Wins Reignwood LPGA Classic in Beijing, China

World No. 1, Stacy Lewis owned the back nine at the Reignwood Pine Valley Golf Course for the first three rounds, but not on Sunday. Lewis was tied for the lead with Caroline Hedwall after 54 holes, but a final round 75 dropped her to a T-6 finish.

She had posted 32, 34, 34 on the back nine on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but made three bogeys on Sunday for a three-over par 40 on the second nine.

Mirim Lee at 24 years old carded a final round four-under-par 69 to edge Hedwall by two shots and collect her second win of the year.

Lee is yet another of the talented group of young women golfers from South Korea. She is very consistent and only had three bogeys on her card all week to win her second title on the LPGA Tour this season.

In addition to the two wins in her rookie year, she has had four top-10 finishes. The $315,000 first-place check from the Reignwood LPGA Classic moves her up to No. 12 in the Race to the CME Globe and No. 29 in the Rolex Ranking.

Lee is also second behind Lydia Ko in the LPGA Rookie of the Year points list.

The 25-year-old Hedwall from Sweden has five wins on the Ladies European Tour, but has never won on the LPGA Tour. Her runner-up finish is her best result this season on the LPGA Tour and her only top-10.

Two more Korean women, Haeji Kang and Inbee Park tied for third at 12-under-par along with Brittany Lang from the U.S.

The Koreans are once again showing the depth of the great players from their country. Koreans held six of the top-10 spots at the Reignwood LPGA Classic this week in Beijing, China.

The ladies tour will hop over to Kuala Lumpur this week for the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
