Braves limit Cubs to one hit, ride 4-run fifth to victory

Mike Yastrzemski homered and drove in three runs, Austin Riley also homered and Dominic Smith went 4-for-4 on Tuesday night to help the Atlanta Braves post a 5-2 victory over the visiting Chicago Cubs.

Grant Holmes started and threw four innings, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out five and walking four for Atlanta, which improved its major-league-leading record to 29-13. Didier Fuentes (2-0) tossed three hitless innings in relief, striking out three and walking one.

Raisel Iglesias worked a perfect ninth to secure his seventh save in as many tries as the Braves won their third in a row.

Starter Colin Rea (4-2) yielded five runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking one across 4 1/3 innings for the Cubs, who were limited to one hit and dropped their third straight game. Alex Bregman homered for Chicago, which has mustered just two runs across its last three games.

Smith's leadoff single in the third was followed by a fielder's choice groundout before Yastrzemski's RBI base hit gave the Braves an early 1-0 edge.

Bergman knotted the score in the fourth with his fourth homer of the year -- a 374-foot solo shot to left.

Holmes then walked Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki and Michael Busch to load the bases, before Moises Ballesteros' fielder's choice groundout gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. Dansby Swanson struck out to end the inning.

Riley began the fifth with his sixth home run of the season to even the score at 2-all. Smith singled, then one out later, Yastrzemski launched his first homer with the club for a 4-2 Atlanta lead.

Drake Baldwin then doubled and Ozzie Albies walked to chase Colin Rea. Ryan Rolison then entered and allowed Matt Olson's RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2.
